WHAT IS THIS??!!

This list was compiled by Dr. Willis Miller for Avery Todd during the years 1998-1999, from approximately 60 sources.
This interface and the supporting database was created by Dr. Miller in December, 2005.

Please use this list freely at any time for personal reference only. Questions regarding redistribution should be sent to chip@millersrus.com.

Most of the sources for this list were taken from the following:

Barbour, J. Murray. Tuning and Temperament : A Historical Survey. East Lansing: Michigan State College Press, 1953.
Henderson, Ian. Strobe Tuner Settings for the Historic Scales . New York, 1983.
Jorgenson, Owen H. "In Tune with Old Tunings." Clavier : November 1978: 26-28.
_______________. Tuning: Containing the Perfection of Eighteenth-Century Temperament; The Lost Art of Nineteenth Century
Temperament; and The Science of Equal Temperament
. East Lansing: Michigan State University Press, 1991.
_______________. Tuning the Historical Temperaments by Ear . Marquette: The Northern Michigan University Press, 1977.
_______________. The Equal-Beating Temperaments: A Handbook for Tuning Harpsichords and Forte-Pianos,
with Tuning Techniques  and Tables of Fifteen Historical Temperaments
. Raleigh: The Sunsbury Press, 1981.

A more complete bibliography, and hopefully some more interesting stuff, may be found in the final result of this project, my dissertation.

Great effort has been made to give references to sources when applicable; originally, these notes were intended for my personal use only, but have been included here in case they may prove useful. In the data, "Barbour" citings refer to the Barbour source above; "Jorgenson" citings refer to Tuning: Containing the Perfection...

Is the data accurate?

Probably. Feel free to contact me if an error is discovered.

Can you add temperaments to this list?

Yes. Please email me the details.
